State Liaison

Protect Democracy is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting US democracy. You will be working on VoteShield which utilizes machine learning to analyze changes to voter registration files and ensure the integrity of US elections. 

We are seeking a full-time State Liaison for 1 year. Office is located in NYC. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The optimal candidate will be at least two years out of college, and will have applicable experience in either election administration/laws, or managing academic researchers. A JD or other relevant advanced degree is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Acquiring a working knowledge of the election laws, calendars and public records request procedures across the country
  • Requesting, archiving, and managing a large amount of public record requests
  • Managing existing relationships with state and local officials by proactively reaching out, and filtering feedback to team to improve the product 
  • Coordinating the work of state-level researchers across the country and managing their deliverables

Skills

  • Proficiency or willingness to dive deep into the nuance of election and public records law
  • Experience productively interacting with government administrators and/or academics
  • Attention to detail and able to organize, manage, and securely back up thousands of files
  • Tech savvy with a working knowledge of data science basics
