State and Local Solutions Are Integral to Protect Election Officials and Democracy
Election officials across the country are under attack, with one-third reporting that they feel unsafe in their jobs and huge numbers resigning. Our democracy itself is at risk without these qualified election administrators — without them at the helm, it is uncertain whether our elections will be run efficiently, properly and safely.
Election workers have become a key target of the Big Lie — President Trump’s false claim of a stolen election and massive election fraud. This has resulted in an alarming and unprecedented surge in threats of violence, harassment, and intimidation against election workers.
Election officials must feel safe doing their jobs, and those who threaten them must be held accountable. Our democracy cannot survive without the election workers who ensure elections are run freely and fairly. Protect Democracy is working to protect these officials and hold those who threaten them accountable, advocating for state and federal protections and pursuing litigation to hold accountable those who defame election workers, and especially those who do so in ways that result in threats to election workers.
History has shown that the best way to protect democracy is by standing united in its defense. Donate to help us to scale up our efforts to educate, advocate, organize, and litigate on behalf of the values we all hold dear.
