Protect Democracy calls on Congress to address staff capacity and retention with bipartisan group of organizations

In light of decades of declining congressional capacity, Protect Democracy joined a bipartisan group of organizations calling on Congress to increase funding for congressional personal office and committee staff. Inadequate funding, resulting in the inability of Congress to competitively attract and retain talent, has undermined the legislative branch’s capacity to effectively perform its basic constitutional roles and responsibilities, such as conducting oversight of the executive branch. No organization can run itself sustainably without investing in its staff — and Congress is no exception.
