Protect Democracy Applauds the House Upon Passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act
- August 25, 2021
Washington, DC—Protect Democracy applauds the passage by the House of Representatives of H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and calls upon the Senate to swiftly consider and pass this critical voting rights and civil rights legislation upon its return in September.
The freedom to vote is foundational to our democracy. It is essential for the strength of our democracy that we ensure all Americans of every race and creed are able to exercise their right to vote, and have their votes counted.
Voters across the country, particularly voters of color, the disabled, and the elderly continue to face assaults to their access to the ballot. Now, the Senate must protect this fundamental right by reauthorizing this vital legislation, must invest in the security and accessibility of our elections, and must help to ensure the continued strength of our democracy.
It can happen here.
We can stop it.
Defeating authoritarianism is going to take all of us. Everyone and every institution has a role to play. Together, we can protect democracy.
