2500+ DOJ alumni condemn abuse of power and call for new leadership at Justice Department

“In this nation, we are all equal before the law,” the 2500-and-counting Department of Justice alumni wrote in their statement, posted HERE. “One should not be given special treatment in a criminal prosecution because they are a close political ally of the President. Governments that use the enormous power of law enforcement to punish their enemies and reward their allies are not constitutional republics, they are autocracies.”

This statement was prompted by Attorney General William Barr’s decision to overrule his own prosecutors’ sentencing recommendations for Roger Stone, a long-time friend of President Trump who was convicted of seven felonies, including lying under oath and obstructing a congressional inquiry. The Department’s unprecedented move to give preferential treatment to a close associate of the President smacks of political interference and represents an assault on the rule of law and American values.
