Caitlin Childs
Paralegal & Impact Associate
Caitlin is a paralegal and impact associate at Protect Democracy. Before joining PD, Caitlin was an investigator at the Southern Center for Human Rights, leading fact investigations for class action lawsuits challenging prison and jail conditions in Georgia and Alabama. She also conducted juror and habeas investigations and served as a mitigation investigator for cases involving children sentenced to life without parole. Caitlin further honed her litigation skills as a paralegal at a personal injury trial firm.
A veteran of legislative advocacy and grassroots organizing, Caitlin was the founding director of an award-winning community organizing initiative at the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities and later served as a legislative consultant for Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. Her commitment to civil liberties is deeply personal; she was a plaintiff in a high-profile federal lawsuit challenging her unlawful arrest by Homeland Security during the early days of the Patriot Act — an experience that continues to fuel her work holding government power accountable.
