Shailly Gupta Barnes is the Policy and Research Director for the Kairos Center. She has a background in law, economics and human rights and has spent the past 20 years working with and for poor and dispossessed communities. Since 2017, she has also served as the Policy Director of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival (PPC:NCMR). Alongside numerous articles and resources, Shailly has co-authored and edited several groundbreaking reports at the intersection of poverty, race, militarism, climate crisis and building political power, including: The Souls of Poor Folk: Auditing America, The Poor People’s Moral Budget, Unleashing the Power of Poor and Low-income Americans, Waking the Sleeping Giant: Poor and Low-income Voters in the 2020 Elections, The Poor People’s Pandemic Report: Mapping the Intersections of Poverty, Race and COVID-19 and I Didn’t Have to Worry: How the Child Tax Credit Helped Families Catch up on Rent
