Wandrea’ “Shaye” Moss receives the JFK Library Foundation’s Profile in Courage Award

May 24, 2022 – Former Fulton County, Georgia elections worker, and Protect Democracy client, Wandrea “Shaye” Moss received the JFK Library Foundation’s Profile in Courage Award Sunday night for her dedication to democracy in the face of serious threats to her and her family.

Moss was falsely accused by then-President Donald Trump and his allies of counting fake ballots and double-counting others for now-President Joe Biden. Following the lies told by Trump and his supporters, Moss received countless death threats and racist taunts. Despite the relentless harassment she faced every day, she carried out her duties and stood firm for democracy.

“I want to give a special thank you to all the anonymous elections workers out there–the ones doing the heavy lifting our democracy depends on, far from the spotlights,” Moss said, while accepting the award in Boston. “Tonight, I represent all of them. All of those hard working people with incredible courage to do the job and do it right. As President Kennedy said: ‘Our goal is not the victory of might but the vindication of right.’”

An elections worker for over 10 years, Moss worked alongside her mother Ruby Freeman during the 2020 election. Both suffered as a result of the lies told about them by powerful people but continued “doing the hard and unseen work to run our democracy,” according to the JFK Library Foundation.

Moss was honored alongside fellow awardees Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D), and Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers (R).
