Federal Judge Orders Rudolph Giuliani to Turn Over Most of His Property to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss

On October 22, 2024, a New York federal court ordered Rudolph Giuliani to turnover most of his property — including his New York co-op apartment — to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss in order to begin to satisfy the more than $146 million dollar defamation verdict they won against him in December 2023. Earlier this year, Mr. Giuliani unsuccessfully attempted to stall, indefinitely, enforcement of the verdict by claiming bankruptcy. The bankruptcy proceeding was dismissed on August 2, 2024, after Mr. Giuliani’s dilatory tactics failed.

“The road to justice for Ruby and Shaye has been long, but they have never wavered,” said one of Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss’s counsel, Aaron Nathan of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. “Last December, a jury delivered a powerful verdict in their favor, and we’re proud that today’s ruling makes that verdict a reality.”

It has been nearly four years since Rudy Giuliani orchestrated a campaign of malicious lies about Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss for his own personal, political, and financial interest. The impact was immediate, swift, and devastating to our clients, who made the brave decision to speak the truth and truth to power. After years of Giuliani attempting to evade all legal responsibility for the damage he caused, a jury responded by awarding Ruby and Shaye more than $146 million dollars in December 2023.

Ever since the jury verdict, Giuliani has attempted to manipulate and abuse the legal system to avoid paying our clients a cent. His efforts to delay accountability end today, with a federal judge ordering him to turn over virtually all of his property, including his New York City co-op, to Ruby and Shaye within seven days.

“We are proud that our clients will finally begin to receive some of the compensation to which they are entitled for Giuliani’s actions,” said Nathan. “This outcome should send a powerful message that there is a price to pay for those who choose to intentionally spread disinformation.”
