Strategic Communications Lead, Free and Fair Elections

Emily Rodriguez is the strategic communications lead on elections for Protect Democracy, specializing in election security and litigation, as well as state-level strategic plans. She staffs the National Task Force on Election Crises and launched the Democracy Atlas series, which features eight anti-authoritarian lessons synthesized from interviews with democracy leaders in dozens of countries. Before joining Protect Democracy, Emily focused on preserving election integrity on five continents and spent almost a decade in domestic politics, strategic communications, and organized labor. She is a political partner with the Truman National Security Project and holds degrees from American University and Sciences Po Paris.

Emily Rodriguez, communications and advocacy strategist with Protect Democracy, which describes itself as a “non-partisan and anti-authoritarian group,” said the trend started in 2022. “Delaying official election tallies may result in missed federal and state reporting deadlines, cause confusion and suspicion among voters and imperil the democratic process,” she said. “All uncertainty about who won elections is risky, especially in these intense times.”
