John Paredes is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses on protecting voting rights and free and fair elections, and ensuring accountability for political violence. He previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Susan L. Carney of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Honorable Lorna G. Schofield of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Ultimately, the jury found that only Cisneros’s actions crossed the line from political expression into something more threatening.
“They found the ring leader liable,” said John Paredes, a lawyer for Protect Democracy, which represented those on the bus. “I think their issue was whom to pin the blame on in this incident, not ‘is this incident okay?’ The jury said it’s not okay.”
